# Setup

Five short steps from the Windows installer to your first boot, plus the spec sheet to check before you start.

## Facts (2026-10-13)

- **Host OS:** Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
- **Steps to first boot:** Four, plus a controller
- **Price:** Free
- **Firmware:** Your own PS5UPDATE.PUP

## The whole path, in order

Setup is deliberately short. There is no account, no launcher-inside-a-launcher, and nothing to configure before the first boot.

1. [Run the Windows installer](/setup/windows-installer) on 64-bit Windows 10 or 11.

2. [Install firmware](/setup/install-firmware) with your own official PS5UPDATE.PUP via File then Install Firmware.

3. [Boot system software](/setup/boot-system-software) and let the PS5 interface start on your desktop.

4. [Add the games you already own](/setup/add-ps5-games) from the File menu.

5. [Pair a DualSense](/setup/dualsense-on-pc) over USB or Bluetooth and press start.

If a step fails, the [how-to section](/howto) covers the failures we actually see rather than hypothetical ones.

## What to check before you begin

Two things stop more setups than anything else: a CPU without AVX2 and a graphics driver too old to expose Vulkan 1.3. Both are quick to verify against [the minimum and recommended spec](/setup/minimum-recommended).

You will also want your own PS5UPDATE.PUP ready. Vesper does not bundle firmware and does not host PUP files, keys, or dumps, so grab it from Sony's official PS5 system software page or from your own console before you sit down.

## What setup does not include

No games arrive with the installer. Vesper is a launcher for the PlayStation 5 titles already in your possession, and the 400+ entries in the app are status records rather than downloads.

Vesper is independent software and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

## FAQ

### How long does Vesper setup take?

The installer itself is quick. Installing firmware depends on how long your PS5UPDATE.PUP takes to copy and verify, which is usually the longest single step.

### Do I need to install anything else first?

Most Windows machines already carry the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 x64 runtime. If Vesper reports a missing DLL at launch, install that official Microsoft runtime as described in the missing-runtime guide.

### Can I install Vesper on Windows on Arm, macOS, or Linux?

Not yet. Vesper targets 64-bit Windows 10 and 11 on x64 hardware only.

### Does setup need an internet connection?

You need one to download the installer. After that the app runs locally against your own firmware and your own games.
