# How to play PS5 games on Windows

Start to finish, from an empty PC to a game running — with the honest caveats in place.

## Facts (2026-10-13)

- **Time:** Under an hour, mostly waiting
- **You need:** Your own PUP and your own games
- **Cost:** Free
- **Difficulty:** Low, with two hard requirements

## What you need in front of you

- A PC running 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 on an x64 CPU with AVX2.

- A Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU with its current driver installed.

- Your own official PS5UPDATE.PUP from Sony's system-software page.

- The PlayStation 5 games you already own.

- Ideally a DualSense and a USB-C cable.

If the AVX2 or Vulkan requirements are not met, stop here and read [the spec page](/setup/minimum-recommended) first. Neither can be worked around.

## The five steps

1. Download and run the free Windows installer from [the download page](/download).

2. Open Vesper, choose File then Install Firmware, and select your own PS5UPDATE.PUP.

3. Choose File then Boot system software and wait for the PlayStation 5 interface to appear.

4. Choose File then Add games and point the launcher at the titles you own.

5. Connect a DualSense over USB or Bluetooth, pick a tile, and press start.

Each step has its own page under [setup](/setup) if you want the detail, but for most machines this list is the whole job.

## Which game to try first

Pick something light and well-behaved rather than the most demanding thing you own. [Kena](/game/kena-ps5-emulator) or [Astro Bot](/game/astro-bot-ps5-emulator) will tell you whether your setup is sound in a couple of minutes.

Check the chip before you commit an evening. A title sitting in Test is expected to break, and that is a statement about the emulator rather than about your PC.

## What to expect once it runs

Vesper is early software. Crashes and visual glitches happen, statuses move in both directions between builds, and we make no resolution or frame-rate promises anywhere.

What you should get on a machine meeting the recommended spec is a launcher holding 400+ status records, your own library listed with honest chips, and the Stable titles playable for a full evening.

## FAQ

### Can I play PS5 games on a PC without a PS5?

You do not need the console, but you do need the games you intend to play and an official copy of the system software file. Vesper supplies neither.

### Is it really free?

The Windows installer is free, with no account and no payment. What costs you something is owning the games already.

### How long does the whole thing take?

Usually under an hour, and most of that is firmware copying and the first boot. The steps themselves are quick.

### Nothing happens when I press start on a tile. Why?

Check that firmware is installed and system software has been booted, since a tile cannot launch without them. If both are fine, look at the title's chip.
